We were approached by the organisers of the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup to supply a lighting system for the event taking place within the Central Hall at Manchester Central Convention Centre. The system needed to achieve a high lux level for broadcast requirements along with impactful effects to enhance the opening sequence.
Solution
The system needed to be installed ahead of the seating and flooring overlay so our main rig comprised of a moving light system consisting of 100 fixtures rigged from 4 overheard trusses each running the length of the pitch.
Beam lights were installed at floor level to add a to the sense of occasion creating impact at key moments. A timecoded show was programmed on an MA3 lighting console for the opening sequence.
In addition to the main hall lighting we also supported with various other Lighting and AV requirements around the venue.
The event was a huge success both on and off the pitch with England beating France to win the World Cup Trophy.
The Sterling team where great to work with, with so many moving parts on this event we didn’t need to worry about the lighting production.
