JOB SUMMARY 

The QSHE Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the organisation’s quality, safety, health, and environmental programs and initiatives for event operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in these areas, with a focus on event production and equipment handling

 

KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Management:

  • Develop and implement quality management systems (ISO 9001) to ensure consistent quality of event production services and equipment
  • Conduct inspections and audits of event setups, equipment, and operations to identify areas for improvement
  • Monitor and analyse quality metrics related to event delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Manage supplier quality and evaluate the performance of sub-contractors / hired in services

Safety Management:

  • Develop and implement health & safety processes and procedures (ISO 45001) specific to event production services and equipment
  • Conduct risk assessments for event sites, equipment setup, and load-in/load-out operations
  • Investigate incidents and accidents during event operations, and implement corrective actions
  • Provide safety training and awareness campaigns for staff and crew members

Environmental Management:

  • Develop and maintain an environmental management system (ISO 14001) to ensure compliance with regulations related to event operations and equipment use
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance indicators, such as waste generation and energy consumption
  • Implement initiatives to reduce the company’s environmental impact

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to event production and equipment handling
  • Develop and implement compliance programs and procedures for event operations
  • Collaborate with event organisers, venue management, and relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance
  • Represent the company in external audits and inspections

Training and Communication:

  • Develop and deliver training programs on quality, safety, health and environmental topics for event staff and crew members
  • Communicate policies, procedures, and best practices to employees and event stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement in QSHE practices

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for quality, safety, health, and environmental programs related to event operations
  • Prepare and present reports to management and relevant stakeholders on QSHE performance
  • Ensure timely reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements for event operations

 

SKILLS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Full UK Driving Licence and own transport
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Quality Management, or a related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) are required.
  • Proven experience in quality, safety, health, and environmental management systems, preferably in the events or entertainment industry.
  • In depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to event production and equipment handling.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in dynamic event environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage event stakeholders.

PRIMARY ROLE

As part of our plans for continued growth, we are looking to expand our hire team with the appointment of an additional hire coordinator. The team currently includes two hire coordinators, a senior hire coordinator and our hire manager. We are looking for somebody with broad technical knowledge who thrives on finding solutions for our clients. You’ll be a confident communicator both over the phone and on email. Our hire team supports the needs of other rental and production companies across the UK in all market sectors including corporate, live music, theatre and broadcast. Alongside this the team also supports the AV hire requirements of landmark venues across the Northwest and beyond. KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinating our Trade Dry Hire Business and advising clients on the best practices and use of our inventory where applicable.
  • Coordinating our Venue AV Hire and Support Service.
  • Quoting clients and specifying kit lists.
  • Producing daily schedules for our Venue Technicians by providing detailed information and plans where necessary.
  • Occasionally meeting with clients in person to discuss their requirements.

PRIMARY ROLE

As part of our continuing expansion plans, we have the opportunity for an enthusiastic Audio Engineer / Live Events Technician to join our team.  The successful applicant will be an experienced sound engineer and have hands on experience working in the live events sector. The successful candidate will also be at home in a fast paced, hands on environment and thrive under pressure. KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Rigging and operating audio equipment for a wide variety of live, virtual and hybrid events.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • The ability to lead a team of freelance staff and represent the company.
  • Communicating with clients, suppliers, venue staff and crew both onsite and prior to an event.
  • Preparing and maintaining equipment in our warehouse spaces.
  • Working with the head of audio to continue developing, maintaining, and improving the audio department.
  • Delivering / collecting equipment in company vehicles.
  • Assistance in other departments to meet the needs of the business.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES OF THE CANDIDATE

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a live events sound engineer, particularly in the corporate sector.
  • Experience mixing Front of House and Monitors for live music acts
  • Experience mixing high level corporate conferences / awards
  • Knowledge of Yamaha digital mixind consoles, particularly CL and QL series
  • Knowledge of d&b line arrays, amplifiers, array calc and R1 control network
  • Proficient in the programming and use of Qlab
  • Ability to work as part of a team or unaccompanied under own initiative.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure of a live event.
  • High standard of personal presentation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Ability to problem solve and to work to deadlines.
  • High self-motivation and ability to lead by example.
  • Flexibility and a can do, customer focused attitude.
  • Keen eye for detail with a high standard of equipment presentation.
  • Full UK Driving License and own transport.

TRAINING & PROGRESSION

On-going training will be provided as the job role requires. We value our team and want to see them progress and develop their skills and career within the organisation. Career progression within our expanding company would be available for proactive individuals.

WORKING HOURS

If you have the experience we are looking for then you will already know that this is not a 9 ‘til 5 job. Due to the nature of our industry, we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. Weekend work will be required.  We try hard to manage a work life balance for our team.

HOLIDAYS

  • 28 days per year
  • After 3 years continuous service you will receive your birthday off (day off can be taken within 7 days of your birthday)
  • After 5 years continuous service you will receive a further day’s holiday

PRIMARY ROLE

As part of our continuing expansion, we have the opportunity for an enthusiastic Cable Prep Technician to join our team. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the cabling and connections used within the event industry and feel at home in a fast-paced warehouse environment. A good understanding of live event production is preferable but not essential. Teamwork is a key part of the Sterling culture, all parts of the business support and collaborate to achieve together and our people are the reason our clients’ have been returning year on year for over two decades.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hands on preparation of equipment (predominantly in the cables and mains distribution departments, however work in other divisions of the warehouse will also be required) for productions and dry hires, to the highest standard.
  • Cleaning and recoiling cables returned from productions and hires.
  • Checking in cables returned from productions and hires.
  • Ensuring all cable, flight cases are functional, clean, maintained and well presented to meet Sterling standards
  • Ensuring workspaces are kept well organised and tidy.
  • Testing cables including Cat 5/6/6a, Socapex, 3 phase mains.
  • General service, maintenance, and repair of cables.
  • Loading / unloading of vans and trucks.
  • Occasional deliveries / collections and site work (Full UK driving license an advantage but not essential).
  • Maintain high Health & Safety standards and adhere to company policies and procedures.

PRIMARY ROLE

The successful applicant will be customer focused, a strong leader, experienced in live audio engineering and have a good understanding of event production. KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide technical support to our project managers and technicians.
  • Managing the preparation process of our equipment to ensure the highest possible standards are met.
  • Managing general service, maintenance, and repairs of audio equipment.
  • Researching new products and advise on equipment investment.
  • Adding new equipment to service.
  • Planning, Co-ordinating and booking of RF frequencies.
  • Designing of live audio systems for a range of events.
  • Provide training where required.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers on large productions.
  • Liasing with acts and their engineers to ensure technical riders are catered for.
  • Ability to keep rental software up to date.
  • Other Tasks as the business requires.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • High self-motivation, with the ability to lead by example and work as part of a team.
  • Experience in the live events industry essential.
  • Experience with Yamaha and Allen & Heath digital consoles essential.
  • Experience in the use of d&b array calc and R1 software essential.
  • Knowledge of Dante essential.
  • Knowledge of Qlab essential.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Meticulous planning and attention to detail.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise multiple jobs, on a daily basis.
