As an AV Technician in our Venues & Hire Team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality audiovisual services to various venues across the North-West.   • Collect vans from the warehouse and deliver a wide range of AV, lighting, staging, and event-related equipment to various venues across the North-West

JOB SUMMARY 

The QSHE Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the organisation’s quality, safety, health, and environmental programs and initiatives for event operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in these areas, with a focus on event production and equipment handling

 

KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Management:

  • Develop and implement quality management systems (ISO 9001) to ensure consistent quality of event production services and equipment
  • Conduct inspections and audits of event setups, equipment, and operations to identify areas for improvement
  • Monitor and analyse quality metrics related to event delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Manage supplier quality and evaluate the performance of sub-contractors / hired in services

Safety Management:

  • Develop and implement health & safety processes and procedures (ISO 45001) specific to event production services and equipment
  • Conduct risk assessments for event sites, equipment setup, and load-in/load-out operations
  • Investigate incidents and accidents during event operations, and implement corrective actions
  • Provide safety training and awareness campaigns for staff and crew members

Environmental Management:

  • Develop and maintain an environmental management system (ISO 14001) to ensure compliance with regulations related to event operations and equipment use

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to event production and equipment handling

  • Collaborate with event organisers, venue management, and relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance
  • Represent the company in external audits and inspections

Training and Communication:

  • Develop and deliver training programs on quality, safety, health and environmental topics for event staff and crew members

Documentation and Reporting:

WORKING HOURS

If you have the experience we are looking for, then you will already know that this isn’t a 9 ‘til 5 job.   • Provide strategic leadership for the entire scenic department, including design, construction, and on-site installation teams

This key role will lead our workshop and scenic warehouse team, ensuring high-quality production and efficient operations. The successful candidate will contribute to Sterling's reputation for technical artistry and creativity in the live events industry.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the scenic workshop team, including carpenters, painters, and other craftspeople
  • Manage the day-to-day tasking of the scenic workshop and warehouse team
  •  Oversee the construction & preparation process of scenic elements, ensuring the highest possible standards & deadlines are met
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices
  • Maintain inventory of materials and equipment, and manage relationships with suppliers
  • Provide input on construction design and material specification for custom scenic elements
  • Hands-on construction of scenic products
  • Communicate regularly with the Head of Scenic for day-to-day and forward planning, ensuring best use of department resources
  • Train and mentor junior members of the scenic team
  • Assist other departments and perform other duties as needed to meet business needs

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES 

  • At least 5 years' experience in scenic construction, preferably in corporate events or similar fastpaced environments
  • Excellent carpentry skills and scenic construction techniques with good working knowledge of various materials
  • Good working knowledge of workshop tools and machinery
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Ability to read & interpret construction drawings & CAD plans
  • Attention to detail and quality control
  • Ability to plan and prioritise multiple jobs on a daily basis
  • Creative problem-solving and time management skills
  • Flexibility and a can-do, customer-focused attitude
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and HSE regulations
  • Familiarity with sustainable and eco-friendly production practices
  • Experience with CNC machines and 3D printing (advantage but not essential)

PRIMARY ROLE

As part of our continuing expansion plans, we have the opportunity for an enthusiastic Audio Engineer / Live Events Technician to join our team.  The successful applicant will be an experienced sound engineer and have hands on experience working in the live events sector. The successful candidate will also be at home in a fast paced, hands on environment and thrive under pressure. Teamwork is a key part of the Sterling culture, all parts of the business support and collaborate to achieve together, and our people are the reason our clients’ have been returning year on year for over two decades.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Rigging and operating audio equipment for a wide variety of live, virtual and hybrid events.
  • Working as part of a team.
  • The ability to lead a team of freelance staff and represent the company.
  • Communicating with clients, suppliers, venue staff and crew both onsite and prior to an event.
  • Preparing and maintaining equipment in our warehouse spaces.
  • Working with the head of audio to continue developing, maintaining, and improving the audio department.
  • Delivering / collecting equipment in company vehicles.
  • Assistance in other departments to meet the needs of the business.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES OF THE CANDIDATE

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a live events sound engineer, particularly in the corporate sector.
  • Experience mixing Front of House and Monitors for live music acts
  • Experience mixing high level corporate conferences / awards
  • Knowledge of Yamaha digital mixind consoles, particularly CL and QL series
  • Knowledge of d&b line arrays, amplifiers, array calc and R1 control network
  • Proficient in the programming and use of Qlab
  • Ability to work as part of a team or unaccompanied under own initiative.
  • Ability to thrive under pressure of a live event.
  • High standard of personal presentation.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Ability to problem solve and to work to deadlines.
  • High self-motivation and ability to lead by example.
  • Flexibility and a can do, customer focused attitude.
  • Keen eye for detail with a high standard of equipment presentation.
  • Full UK Driving License and own transport.

WORKING HOURS

If you have the experience we are looking for then you will already know that this is not a 9 ‘til 5 job. Due to the nature of our industry, we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. HOLIDAYS

  • 28 days per year
  • After 3 years continuous service you will receive your birthday off (day off can be taken within 7 days of your birthday)
