Sterling Event Group provided technical support for the British Drift Championship Round 1 at Teesside Autodrome
Sterling Event Group provided technical support for the British Drift Championship Round 1 at Teesside Autodrome. This event is a 2 day event across a Saturday and Sunday with drivers travelling from all around the UK & Europe to compete.
In previous events, the audio set up has always typically been a basic 6 speaker PA providing the audio across the whole venue, however for this event Sterling were determined to provide a much higher specification for the organisers. Our objective was simple, no matter where the audience were on the grounds of Teesside for Round One, they will be able to hear crystal clear audio of the action live on track.
Teesside is renowned for having embankments of various heights, in which are main locations for spectating. This gave our audio department a small challenge of designing an audio system that could create clear even coverage with also having speaker placement away for run off zones.
To meet this objective, we supplied 18 x D&B Q Series Loudspeakers & 8 x Q-Subs in both mini arrays and point source configurations and placed along the full length of the track to deliver clear sound quality across the entire arena. To power this audio system we utilized our D&B – D80 range amplifiers which are not only extremely powerful, but also very power efficient.
We then placed 8 x weatherproof speakers in the pit areas for announcements and to feed live commentary to the drivers in which Matt from the BDC was keen to do in order for drivers to be kept aware of what was going on around the track, but also to create atmosphere and hype amongst the teams in the pits . Signal for this was transmitted wirelessly by utilising some of Sterling Event Groups forever growing Sennheiser RF Range.
As part of our service, we took an audio feed direct from the live stream team, but then also delivered the live elements (when not on live stream) with technical assistance to the commentary team with wireless microphones and Live DJ’s performing with our Pioneer Nexus 2 – CDJ’s & Mixer.
Using Sterling Event Group for the first round of the British Drift Championship was an absolute pleasure, from an organisers perspective, they did everything they said they would to a super high standard, they went over and above to assist with any other departments on site like the live stream team and any issues that arose the engineers on site were very quick to apply a fix too so everything was seamless to the crowd. From an end users’ point of view, it was out of this world, most levels of motorsport have very basic PA systems and it's often an issue people complain about. We got in touch with the team at Sterling as not only did we not want those issues but we wanted to create a great atmosphere that can be enjoyed by all, we had options of different sound levels in different areas, the ability to communicate with the teams in the pits without it interfering with the crowds experience and some great bass that the fans hadn't ever experienced at an event like this before. I'd 100% use them again and recommend to anyone needing similar services, it’s a simple formula, they not only do what they say they will but they go above and beyond. It’s the same principle we work too so it’s nice to find businesses with similar ethics!
