JOB OVERVIEW

As part of our continuing expansion, we are seeking an enthusiastic Head of Scenic to join our team and significantly develop our Staging and Set department. This key leadership role will drive the growth and excellence of our scenic capabilities, contributing to Sterling's reputation for technical artistry and creativity in the live events industry.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide strategic leadership for the entire scenic department, including design, construction, and on-site installation teams
  • Oversee, train and mentor the scenic department team members
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence within the department
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities to grow our scenic department
  • Liaise with clients, event planners, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of scenic elements in events
  • Oversee quality control processes for all scenic productions
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and implement risk management strategies across all scenic operations
  • Provide input on construction design and material specification for custom scenic elements
  • Manage general service, maintenance, and repairs of equipment
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to maintain the company's competitive edge
  • Communicate regularly with the projects and scenic teams for day-to-day and forward planning, ensuring best use of department resources
  • Represent the company at industry events and foster relationships with key stakeholders
  • Assist other departments and perform other duties as needed to meet business needs

  

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • At least 5 years of experience in scenic design and production, with at least 3 years in a management role
  • Extensive knowledge of the corporate events industry and its unique requirements
  • Proven track record of successful large-scale event productions
  • Self-motivation, with the ability to lead by example and work as part of a team
  • Advanced knowledge of scenic design principles and construction techniques
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools
  • Good working knowledge of workshop tools and machinery
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic planning and department management
  • Attention to detail and quality control
  • Ability to plan and prioritise multiple jobs on a daily basis
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work to deadlines
  • Flexibility and a can-do, customer-focused attitude
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and HSE regulations
  • Familiarity with sustainable and eco-friendly production practices
  • Strong IT skills
  • Full UK Driving Licence and own transport
  • Experience with CNC machines and 3D printing (advantage but not essential)

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an enthusiastic Service and Repair Technician to join our growing team and play a key role in expanding our Service and Repair Department. This position is integral to maintaining and repairing inventory, ensuring Sterling continues to uphold its reputation for innovation and technical excellence in the live events industry.

 

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Service and repair of audio, video, and lighting equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Repair of single-phase and three-phase power cables.
  • Repairs on multipin, DMX, microphone, and speaker cables.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Team for day to day and future planning.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to procure necessary parts and components.
  • Manage stock levels of spare parts, connectors, and cables efficiently.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy workshop environment at all times.
  • Ensure rental software is kept up to date.
  • Adhere to company policies and maintain high standards of Health & Safety practices.
  • Assist other departments and perform other duties as needed to meet business needs.

 

KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Proven practical experience in a similar role.
  • Good soldering skills.
  • Experience with the repair of moving lights. Certification an advantage but not essential.
  • PAT Testing experience.
  • Strong fault-finding skills.

JOB TITLE:  QSHE Manager 

REPORTING:  Directors 

LOCATION:  Sterling Event Group, Ringway Trading Estate, Manchester M22 5LH.

 SALARY:  £45,000 - £50,000

JOB SUMMARY 

The QSHE Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the organisation’s quality, safety, health, and environmental programs and initiatives for event operations. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards while promoting a culture of continuous improvement in these areas, with a focus on event production and equipment handling

 

KEY ROLES / RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Management:

  • Develop and implement quality management systems (ISO 9001) to ensure consistent quality of event production services and equipment
  • Conduct inspections and audits of event setups, equipment, and operations to identify areas for improvement
  • Monitor and analyse quality metrics related to event delivery and customer satisfaction
  • Manage supplier quality and evaluate the performance of sub-contractors / hired in services

Safety Management:

  • Develop and implement health & safety processes and procedures (ISO 45001) specific to event production services and equipment
  • Conduct risk assessments for event sites, equipment setup, and load-in/load-out operations
  • Investigate incidents and accidents during event operations, and implement corrective actions
  • Provide safety training and awareness campaigns for staff and crew members

Environmental Management:

  • Develop and maintain an environmental management system (ISO 14001) to ensure compliance with regulations related to event operations and equipment use
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance indicators, such as waste generation and energy consumption
  • Implement initiatives to reduce the company’s environmental impact

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay up to date with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to event production and equipment handling
  • Develop and implement compliance programs and procedures for event operations
  • Collaborate with event organisers, venue management, and relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance
  • Represent the company in external audits and inspections

Training and Communication:

  • Develop and deliver training programs on quality, safety, health and environmental topics for event staff and crew members
  • Communicate policies, procedures, and best practices to employees and event stakeholders
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement in QSHE practices

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for quality, safety, health, and environmental programs related to event operations
  • Prepare and present reports to management and relevant stakeholders on QSHE performance
  • Ensure timely reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements for event operations

 

SKILLS AND KEY ATTRIBUTES

  • Full UK Driving Licence and own transport
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, Quality Management, or a related field) or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) are required.
  • Proven experience in quality, safety, health, and environmental management systems, preferably in the events or entertainment industry.
  • In depth knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards related to event production and equipment handling.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in dynamic event environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage event stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.

 

TRAINING & PROGRESSION

WORKING HOURS

If you have the experience we are looking for, then you will already know that this isn’t a 9 ‘til 5 job. Due to the nature of our industry, we require our employees to have a flexible approach to their working hours. Weekends will be required to meet the needs of the business. We try hard to manage a work life balance for our team.

 

HOLIDAYS

  • 28 days per year
  • After 3 years continuous service you will receive your birthday off (day off can be taken within 7 days of your birthday)
  • After 5 years continuous service you will receive a further day’s holiday
