Energy efficiency takes centre stage at The University of Chester

Sterling Event Group are excited to announce their latest project in collaboration with The University of Chester. Lights, Camera, Action had never boasted such green credentials prior to Sterling Event Group supplying their School of Arts and Media main performance spaces with an energy efficient lighting solution upgrade as part of their exciting wider project to upgrade their lighting, power, control, and data systems.

After several years of working with The University of Chester to supplement their existing inventory of technical production stock, and an opportunity arising for them to proceed with their highly anticipated studio upgrades, Sterling Event Group were called in to provide their support.  Their technical expertise and over 20 years’ experience within the industry enabled them to provide extensive guidance on the array of fixture options available to them. From the outset they worked closely with The University of Chester’s Technical Team Leader to devise a solution for the two studios (to be used for dance, drama, live music performances and conferences) that encompassed energy saving and production quality enhancing properties.

“They were able to provide advice on a range of fixture options and also presented a very competitive quote, arranging prompt delivery to meet our limited timescale.” said Colin Blanchard, Technical Team Leader, The University of Chester.

For Sterling Event Group, Chauvet were an obvious manufacturer of choice to execute this install as “with over 400 Chauvet fixtures in our rental stock we were confident to put a Chauvet option forward and could share our experience with their performance, reliability and support.” said Dan Charmer, Director, Sterling Event Group.

The final solution truly exhibited the advances in technology that the industry has seen in recent years and saw the delivery of a full move to LED for the main studio, new install to a second smaller studio, and additional loose kit. Across the two performance studios loads were cut from roughly 39KW to just 10KW (when all lights are set to white); whilst maintenance costs were also reduced, the user experience streamlined, and almost endless colour options provided.

The Chauvet Professional Equipment used included:

  • Maverick MK2 Profiles
  • Ovation F-915FC Fresnels
  • Ovation E-910FC Profiles
  • Ovation P-56FC Pars

AVOLITES TRAINING TO BE HOSTED AT STERLING EVENT GROUP

Avolites will be visiting Sterling Event Group in October, as they hit the road again with their Level 1 & Level 2 of the Titan Academy Course.

These training courses will be run in our new warehouse space, and are open to everyone.

The Level 1 training works through everything you would need to know to build a show file from scratch on the Titan range of consoles. From patching fixtures into the console through recording playbacks, palettes and some of the effects engines that are built into Titan. Level 1 also covers cues lists, which is used for everything from corporate to circus, and theatre to gigs.

Level 2 covers more advanced programming options and set up available already within Titan. As well as networking, Avolites will cover some ways to speed and aid your programming. Level 2 also covers external triggering and working with timecode.

Those attending both levels of the course can then take an optional assessment. Based on the result of this you can be certified or accredited as a programmer on the Avolites website.
