Brief

The British Security Industry Association engaged Sterling to deliver the full technical production for the BSIA Awards, hosted at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. As a prestigious annual awards ceremony celebrating excellence across the security industry, the event required a polished, high-impact production that balanced professionalism with entertainment. The brief focused on creating a visually striking awards environment that enhanced the significance of the occasion, supported seamless winner announcements, and ensured flawless audio and visual delivery for presenters, nominees, and guests. Reliability, clarity, and production quality were critical, alongside a design that elevated the awards experience and reflected the stature of the BSIA brand. To successfully deliver the event, a comprehensive technical solution was required to meet both creative and operational objectives, encompassing full technical production including audio, lighting, vision, and rigging, with clear and even audio coverage for speeches and awards announcements. The production also required dynamic lighting designs to elevate walk-ups and winner moments, a bespoke stage and set build featuring branded scenic elements, and an experienced crew capable of managing complex rig, show, and de-rig schedules within a new venue, ensuring a seamless and professional delivery throughout.

Solution

We delivered a fully integrated technical and scenic solution that transformed the Royal Lancaster Hotel ballroom into a polished, high-impact awards environment befitting the prestige of the BSIA Awards.

At the heart of the design was a strong, confident stage layout that created a clear focal point within the room. A bespoke curved stage was constructed to give the presentation area a sense of scale and presence, complemented by a branded scenic backdrop and  two clear acrylic lecterns set the scene. Lighting played a pivotal role in shaping the event’s atmosphere. A balanced stage wash ensured presenters and award winners were consistently and professionally lit, while dynamic room lighting added energy and movement to key moments such as walk-ups and winner announcements. Carefully programmed moving lights, beam washes, and spot fixtures introduced texture, colour, and impact, elevating the sense of occasion without overpowering the formal connotation of the awards. Contemporary tube lighting incorporated into the set design added depth across the room, delivering moments of drama and excitement at just the right time. Some of the fixtures used to create this package include: X8 Chauvet Rogue Outcast 1 BeamWashes, X12 Chauvet Rogue Outcast 3 Spots and X32 Martin VDO Sceptron (to create some visual eye-candy on the stage), all of which were controlled by the Avolites Tiger Touch II.

A high-quality sound system was deployed to deliver even coverage throughout the ballroom, ensuring speeches, Voice of God announcements, and walk-up stings were clearly heard by all guests. Multiple lectern microphones and wireless handhelds provided flexibility for presenters, while our Allen & Heath digital mixing console allowed precise management of levels throughout the live show.

The vision system was designed to ensure every guest had a clear view of on-stage content. Our Panasonic PT-RZ690 DLP 7K Projector delivered crisp, vibrant visuals onto large-format screens, supported by relay screens positioned around the room. This ensured award graphics and  content were visible from all seating positions, maintaining engagement across the audience.

The result was a cohesive production where all technical elements worked together to create a refined, celebratory awards experience.

Result

We successfully delivered a polished, high-impact awards ceremony that reflected the prestige of the BSIA brand. The combination of dynamic lighting, clear audio, and strong scenic design elevated the awards experience and ensured each winning moment felt significant and celebratory.

The finished event presented a confident, professional awards environment, with dramatic lighting looks, clear sightlines, and a cohesive visual identity. The production supported smooth transitions throughout the ceremony and created an engaging experience for both presenters and guests.
